8.17 Will the Real Winner Please Stand Up

Alayna woke up at 1:00 in the morning in labor. She was well rested, but of course she was still miserable. She waddled downstairs to get something to eat and found Roland still cleaning up from the party.

“You’re still cleaning?”

“Oh! You’re up. How are you feeling now?”

“Oh, I’m just dandy. Labor pains are just the light of my life,” she said sarcastically.

“Labor pains??”

“Yep,” she said and grabbed a plate of mac ‘n cheese.

Roland was acting like an old pro, like he had done this eight times before. He wasn’t phased at all. He was probably a little bit too calm.

“Oooooooooooooooooh! Baby! Can you just wait? Mommy needs to eat before we let you go. Aaaaahhhhhhhhh! If I’m hungry, you should be too!”

Alayna tried to eat her dinner, but the contractions were coming on faster and faster.

“Ok, ok, ok…you don’t want mommy eating. That’s fine. I’ll eat later. Are you going to come with me this time, Roland?”

“Yeah, I suppose I should watch at least one of my kids being born.”

“Thank you. Let’s go now.”

“I’m just gonna stand back here…in case it’s gross.”

Alayna huffed, and she puffed, and she pushed little Anthony out.

“You’re a booooy! Oh how nice,” Alayna gushed. “He’s a boy, Roland!”

“That is nice! So much for my daughter. Let’s name him Anthony.”

“Anthony! That’s such a nice name. You look like an Anthony too!”

Roland laughed to himself and thought, “Oh yeah…I totally won that game!”
