8.51 So Surprised

“How are you, Parker,” Kiara asked. “Ready for your big day?”

“I’m as ready as a UFO on harvest day.”

“UFO?”

Parker quickly realized what she had said and tried to figure out a way to back pedal. Luckily, she was sitting in front of the kitchen window and saw some planted in the backyard.

“Yeah, you know those blue plants your dad has…”

“Oh…right.”

Parker wasn’t ready to reveal herself to the rest of the family yet. She remained in her disguise except during the day when she was home alone. Although she didn’t need to wear it around Ryan, she chose to just in case someone decided to invade their privacy. This little slip up brought something to her attention that she and Ryan actually never talked about.

“My child…I don’t know if you are an alien, a Sim, or some kind of half-breed. Whatever you are…I want you to know that we love you very much. When you’re older, and you can face the world standing on your own two feet, I hope that you are braver than me. I hope you will be courageous enough to accept who you are and don’t feel forced to hide. I hope you’re that courageous right now because…I need you to help me do what I’m afraid to do.”

A few hours later, Parker went into labor, and she called Ryan to meet her at the hospital. After a very quick delivery, they welcomed their daughter, Holly, into the world. Ryan schmoozed his way into the delivery room just as Parker and Holly were meeting for the first time. He was still in his pre-natal panic state and was very surprised to see her. But when he calmed down, all he had to say was…

“You know we have to tell my dad now, right?”

When they got home, mom and baby rested in their bedroom, and Ryan was a nervous wreck. He paced back and forth all over the house for hours while he waited for Owen to get home. When Parker called him to meet at the hospital, he texted Owen to tell him that it was time. Owen said he would be home as soon as he could. However, he wasn’t able to get out of his meetings, so he arrived home a little after six like he did every night. Ryan was upstairs when he heard the front door open and close.

“Ryan?”

“We’re up here,” he shouted.

He took several deep breaths while Owen mounted the stairs. He wasn’t exactly sure why he was so nervous. He didn’t think that Owen would be angry or anything. But, somehow he imagined that Owen wouldn’t take the news as well as he did. The smile on Owen’s face was priceless. He never thought he would be a grandfather especially because he should have been dead right now.

“Dad…wait….Before you go in…there’s something I need to tell you!”
