9.34 Potpourri

Jeannette decided to celebrate her last birthday quietly with just her children, husband, and mother-in-law.

The next morning, Julian received some unexpected company at breakfast.

“Good morning, son,” Brady said as Julian entered the room.

“Dad…I’m an old man. Don’t scare me like that! We need to put some bells on your ankles or something.”

Brady laughed. In a way he thought it was strange to see his son so old, but he was glad for a chance to still be in his life for however long he would be able to come back.

“Have you heard from Sasha,” Brady asked.

“No word on the wedding yet, but Dexter sent me this to let me know she made it safely.” Julian took out his phone and showed Brady the selfie. “That guy…” Julian took a few moments to look at the picture again. He smiled and shook his head a few times. “I still don’t know him well, but he probably doesn’t understand how much it meant to me for him to send that picture.”

“I do,” Brady said.

“Right? It speaks volumes to his character. I can’t wait to see him again so I can tell him.”

“That’s honorable, Julian. Sasha would appreciate it. Send my regards as well, please.”

“I will.”

“I love you, son. And I’m still proud of you every day. I just want you to know that.”

“Thanks, dad. I know you are.”

“Good morning, gentlemen,” Viviana said. Brady wasn’t able to visit every night, but he wasn’t a stranger. But still, each time Viviana was surprised and had to restrain herself from tackling him with a bear hug. This time, she kept herself occupied with the dishes leftover from last night’s party.

“Hey, mom.”

“Good morning, my angel.” Every time he called her that made acting normal even harder. She still missed his voice saying those words.

Juliette was up early and came down for breakfast as well. “Hello, grandpa,” she said.

Viviana held her breath for good behavior on Juliette’s part.

Juliette sat down in front of the left over Monte Cristo sandwich and smiled. “Was someone going to eat this?”

“I was,” Julian said. “But you can have it if you want.”

“Thanks, daddy!” She sniffed the sandwich and wafted its sweet scent into her nose. “This…this is perfection!”

“This is totally going on my Simstagram!”
