Jonathan wasn’t doing well. When he got out of bed, he moped around in his pajamas. He had lost his passion for life. Thank goodness Skyla was already living there, otherwise we would have a complete mess on our hands. Janessa, Aldo, and Juliana bought a house in Oasis Springs, and Juliette decided to move out as well. She bought a house next door to Callie who had also passed away recently. Skyla had been concerned about her father living alone and invited him to come live in the estate. Jonathan wasn’t in the proper state of mind to reject or accept the arrangement, but she would discuss it with him later when he was more himself. So, the three of them lived in the large estate which felt even colder and lonelier than ever now that it was near empty.

“How are you feeling today, Jonathan?”

“How do you think I feel,” he said tersely.

She knew he didn’t intend to be mean, but at times he had a very sharp tongue. It was clear that this was going to be another bad day for him, and she led him back to bed.

“Do you feel like talking?”

“What is there to talk about?”

“Tell me anything. Tell me if you’re mad. Tell me what you’re thinking about.”

“I’m thinking that I don’t know what I’m doing anymore! I don’t know what the point of anything is anymore! Life SUCKS!”

She felt for him and wanted so badly to make his troubles go away, but they weren’t going anywhere—not for a while.

“Am I scaring you,” he yelled. “You can’t handle me being upset? You wanted me to talk, so I’m talking! If you don’t like the things I’m saying, GET OUT!”

She knew anger was part of the grieving process and had to remind herself that it wasn’t her with whom he was angry. He wasn’t angry at anyone in particular. He was hurting. She cried anyway for she had never seen him this way. Her tears brought him back to reality, and he was very ashamed.

“Skyla, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean it! I promise I didn’t mean it. Please don’t go!”

She dried her eyes and attempted to smile. “You once told me that you hoped I would be around when it’s time for you to go into survival mode. That time is now. You’re going to survive this, Jonathan. I know it feels like you won’t, but you will!”

“I’m so glad you’re here, Sky. I don’t know what I would do if I was living in this house all my myself.”
