Chapter 66: Copycats

“Uncle G? Do you like being out here?”

“Not particularly, but it’s the least I can do.”

“I like being outside. When I get big, I’ll help you!”

“When you grow up, these will be yours.”

“Mine?!”

Lance was super excited to hear this news for the first time. He bolted into the house to tell his dad about what he just learned.

“Daddy! Daddy! Uncle G said the flowers are mine!! Is it true?”

“Yep! It’s true.”

“YES!!”

“The entire house and all of the money will be yours too, son.”

“Whoooooa,” he said in awe as he slowly looked at everything around him. “All of it?”

“All of it! See, Lance, our family is very special and goes back a long time. We are apart of something called a legacy.”

“What’s a legacy?”

“It’s something that is passed down from generation to generation…like this house! It’s been in our family for more than 100 years.”

“One hundred?! It doesn’t even look old.”

“Yeah…every generation fixes it up. Would you like to know our family history?”

“Yeah!”

“Ok. Your great great great grandfather’s name was Xavier, and he built this house with his own two hands.”

“Cooooool!”

“He had two kids, Joy and Donovan. They used to call him Donnie. Donnie had one son named Aiden. Aiden had four children named Jasmine, Jayla and Jayden who were twins, and Jared. Jayden was my father, your grandfather, and now I have you! One day you will have a son, and all of this will be his.”

“I’m going to have a son?!”

“I hope so! It’s going to be up to you to keep the family going. Every first born son is what we call an heir, and an heir is the person who is next in line for the inheritance.”

“That’s soo AWESOME! I get to have all of this to myself,” he screamed as he ran out the door.

“He’s such a great kid,” Brandon said.

“Yes,” Amira agreed. “We are soo blessed!”

“Hey guys,” Bianca said as she sat down next to them.

“But, you know,” Amira continued, “He doesn’t have to be alone you know.”

“He won’t be alone. He’ll have his…oh! You mean–”

“Yeah,” Bianca interrupted, “This is definitely my cue to leave.”

“Don’t you want to have another baby? Maybe a daughter,” Amira asked.

“Well…sure, but…now? We’re all soo busy, and Bianca’s twins are a handful.”

“Yeah, I know. Now isn’t a good time. But, soon. Right?”

“Absolutely.”

“Oooooh weee! Smells like a garbage truck in here,” Brandon joked.

“Uh huh…unless you’re here to help, I don’t need your jokes.”

“Sorry, sis. I don’t do poopy diapers.”

“Then what do you want then?”

For the most part, Cadence and Melody were very good babies and didn’t give their parents any trouble. They kept them on a schedule so both parents could tend to their needs at the same time so one wouldn’t have to suffer while waiting for the other. But, of course, that proved to be very difficult when Bianca and Giancarlo were alone. It wasn’t anything they couldn’t handle, but what parent can bear the sound of their child’s cries? It was slightly more stressful to handle alone.

“Nothing, really. Your hair looks nice like that.”

“Thanks.”

“Bianca…we haven’t talked in a really long time. How are you doing? Are you ok?”

“I am the best I’ve ever been, Brandon. Sometimes I’m still mad at mom, and I miss dad all the time, but I am great. I’m married to my best friend, I have two adorable babies, and I lost 75 pounds!”

“Wow! That much? I’m soo happy for you…about everything! I’m really glad life is good to you.”

“Thanks, little bro. So, you guys are having baby talks, eh?”

“Yeah, I suppose. She wants another, but I said now is not a good time.”

“No time is ever optimal. You just have to do it…copycats.”

“Whatever!”

A few hours later, Melody woke up from her nap and wanted some attention. Amira was nearby and satisfied her.

“Hey there, precious! What’s the matter? Yes, I know you want your mommy. You’re soo precious!!”

She had been trying to avoid the twins lest she came down with baby fever. Sure enough, she had it. She went to find her husband to make her request known.

“Braaaaandoooon,” she said alluringly.

“Yes?”

“I want a baaaabyyyy,” she sang.

“Didn’t we just have this conversation,” he asked confused.

“Yes, but I want one now.”

“But…a few hours ago you said we could wait.”

“I know! I changed my mind.”

“I don’t know Amira. I don’t think it’s a good idea.”

“It’ll be fine! The twins’ birthdays are tomorrow. They’ll be able to take care of themselves soon enough.”

“Fine! I’ll think about it.”

“Fine.”

But Amira couldn’t wait for him to think about it. Between the baby fever and her passions for her husband, she decided to take matters into her own hands.

“What are you doing, Amira? I’m trying to pee!”

“I’m helping you think about it.”

“This is not fair. You know I can’t resist you!”

Off to the spare room they went. After they had their fun, Amira quickly got up and went to the bathroom to see if she was pregnant.

“Please be pregnant. Please be pregnant. Please be pregnant….”

“YES!!!!”
