Chapter 93: A New Season – Part II

Lance came home from work very stressed. But, it wasn’t the job creating the stress. It was his own thoughts. Now that two members of the household were in love, and the other was expecting the first generation seven baby, it caused him to think about his life and lack of progression. He was almost half way through his young adult years, but he was still in the same place he was when he had his YA birthday–except he was on his own now. He felt like he was failing at life. He took his job as the heir to the proverbial throne seriously, but if he was truly honest with himself, he saw it as a competition, and he was in last place.

“Allen…come on. We’re going out.”

“Me and you?”

“Is that a problem?”

“No, but…well, it’s just it’s never been just me and you. It’s cool though. Where are we going?”

“Wherever the girls are.”

“Ahhhhhh YEAH! That’s what I’m talkin’ about, bro! I know just the place too.”

They too ended up at The Chapel. The music was loud, the drinks were flowing, and the Sims were everywhere. Allen definitely knew what he was talking about.

“I can’t believe you’re wearing that outfit,” Allen said in disgust.

“Hey…it makes me happy. I need some happy.”

“Whatever, man. You look like a dork! You’ll be lucky if you get the janitor’s number tonight,” he teased.

“Shut up. Why are you always talking??”

When they stepped through the door, Lance saw someone he thought he knew sitting in the far corner of the club talking to someone much older than she was.

Is that…Myra, he questioned to himself. He wanted to get a better look at her without getting caught staring, so he stayed under the shadow of the doorway. Allen, on the other hand, didn’t waste any time jumping in the saddle.

“Hey there, sweet thang. You’re looking mighty fine tonight!”

She laughed.

“What? You think I’m funny?”

“I think you’re funny, looking!”

“Ha ha. You think you have jokes. I see how it is. Don’t worry…you’ll be looking for me later on.”

“Don’t count on it, buster.”

Lance still had his eyes on Myra, but he couldn’t get a good look at her face. He was sure it was her. There was only one way to find out. She had gotten up to dance, and Lance saw his opportunity. Luckily for him, everyone had the same idea, and the dance floor was crowded by the time he got to her. He slid in place beside her and made his move.

“Mind if I cut in?”

She was dancing with her eyes closed and feeling the music deeply. She said “ok” to a voice who wanted to dance, but she wasn’t terribly concerned about dancing with anyone. But the voice sounded very familiar. She opened her eyes to confirm her suspicions and to her surprise, she was right.

“Lance?! Is it really you??”

“In the pixels!”

“Oh my word! It’s been way too long!”

They were both grinning from ear to ear and couldn’t take their eyes off each other. They were in total disbelief that they were actually in each other’s presence again.

“It’s so nice to see you again, Myra. You look great!”

“Tell me, Lance. Why didn’t we keep in touch?”

“I really don’t know. I guess life just happened. My uncle died, then my aunt died…then my mom left, and now my dad died. I suppose I just haven’t really been in a very social state of mind over the last few years.”

“Oh, Lance! I wish you would have called me! I could have been there for you.”

He grinned. It was nice to know she still cared.

“I wish I would have called you too.”

They talked and danced the literal night away. He didn’t want it to end, but around 2:30, he felt like they should call it a night. He embraced his old friend and said goodnight.

“I’m so glad I ran into you, Myra. Let’s never lose touch again. Ok?”

“Never again.”

“I didn’t realize how much I missed you until tonight!”

“I feel the same way.”

He still had her in his arms, but she didn’t dare pull away. Everything about her felt right. Standing there with her, he felt at peace and all was well with the world. He knew that a new season of his life was about to begin very soon.
