7.6 An Even Newer Season – Part III

Two weddings and a funeral

Shortly after Cadence and Cameron made their relationship official, they decided that it didn’t make sense to date for a long time and then get married. When you know, why wait? So, they got engaged and planned the wedding for two days later. While they awaited their wedding day, Lance was making similar plans. It was the afternoon of his adult birthday, and he decided that it was time to move forward with Myra. Know her like my own reflection he said, he thought to himself. I got this, Dad.

After he got up and was ready for the day, he called Myra over for a very important conversation.

“Hello, my darling. I’m so glad you could come so soon,” he said.

“You know I’d drop everything for you. So, what are we talking about today?”

“The future.”

“Myra, I feel that I know you very well. I have some things that I need to ask you, and I know what the answers are, but I need to hear them from you…just to be sure.”

“Ok, Mr. Comedian. I’m not used to you being 100% serious.”

“This is serious business.”

“I know.”

“Do you love me?”

“Of course! What kind of a question is that?”

“Do you want to have children?”

“Yes.”

“Do you run away from your problems or blame other people for them?”

“Never.”

“Do you have what it takes to build a life with me?”

“Lance? Are you–”

“Answer the question, please.”

“Ok. I am completely qualified for this job…if it’s being offered to me.”

“Is there anything about yourself you haven’t told me that you think I should know?”

“No. I don’t think so. Well…maybe one small thing.”

Lance’s heart was in his throat and he braced himself for whatever she was about to say.

“When we stopped talking in high school, I decided I wanted to play the field and be a serial romantic. But, when I ran into you again, my feelings changed. I don’t desire to fulfill that goal anymore.”

“Are you in love with anyone else, or even the slightest bit interested?”

“There is only one llama on my farm.”

“Ha! Oh plum, you made me break character! That was really funny though. I may use that in one of my routines.”

“It’s yours.”

“Ok…back to being serious. Let’s go inside.”

“I am a great Sim. I haven’t done anything great yet, but I come from a line of great Sims…so that makes me great. Every great Sim needs someone by his side, cheering him on and enjoying the journey with him….”

Although Myra had caught on earlier to what this was all about, her heart was pounding in her chest and she breathed heavily in anticipation for the actual question. She still couldn’t believe this was actually happening to her.

12-28-14_5-18 PM

“Today is my birthday, and all I want is for you to agree to go down in history with me. Myra Macon…”

She felt like her heart stopped when he lowered himself to one knee. She felt like fainting when he pulled the little black box from his coat pocket.

12-28-14_5-23 PM-4

“Will you be my wife?”

“Yes! A million times, yes!”

She didn’t know how she did it, but she leaped up into his arms and he caught her. He held her and gazed into her green eyes. He was the happiest Sim in the world.

12-28-14_5-25 PM-2

“I let go of you once. I’ll never let go of you ever again.”

Lance and Myra enjoyed a moment of quietude and love before it was time for the guests to arrive. He put her down and went in the kitchen to bake his cake. Myra Soon-to-be-lady-of-the-house invited all the guests inside and made sure everyone was having a good time.

All living Pruetts, and the sole Broussard, were in the place shaking their rumps and having a jolly good time. It was always great to have the family around, but it was especially great to have the ones who left come back home.

“Hey! Look who it is! The prodigal son,” Lance joked.

“Hey…your fiance is down there blinding everyone with that rock, man! Is that how you’re spending Dad’s money,” Allen retorted.

“Only the biggest and the best for my lady.”

“I hear you man. I hear you. Congrats, bro! Welcome to the club.”

“Thanks man…mom?? I’ll be right back.”

12-28-14_6-01 PM

“Who invited her,” Melody asked.

“Still a mama’s boy,” Allen said shaking his head.

12-28-14_6-02 PM

“Hey, Mom.”

“Oh, my Lance. Just look at you! You’re soo handsome…and grown!”

“I’m glad you’re here, Mom.”

“I thought you hated me.”

“Why would I hate you?”

“Because of your father…may he rest in peace.”

“I don’t agree with what you did, but that doesn’t mean I hate you.”

“But you never called or came by. I thought I had lost you.”

“I’m sorry, Mom. So…how’ve you been?”

“Oh, I’ve been ok. I’ve recently taken on a boarder,” she gushed.

12-28-14_6-03 PM

“Mom…you have a man living at your house??”

“How did you guess it’s a man? And why are you getting agitated?”

“Mom! Stop treating me like a child like I’m not supposed to know what you’re up to! You live in a one bedroom house! For heaven’s sake, Mom…you’re someone’s grandmother! Aren’t you ready to hang that hat up?”

“I will do no such thing–”

12-28-14_6-04 PM

“Wait…I’m a grandmother?? You guys had a baby?!”

“No. Allen and his wife have a son. Maybe if you weren’t so busy–”

“Lance! Enough! Your father is dead, may he rest in peace. I am free to live my life how I see fit! You don’t have to like it, but I will not have you criticizing me. I am still your mother!”

“I’m sorry, Mom. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

“Come here, son.”

12-28-14_6-04 PM-2

“I love you. I know you don’t agree with how I live, but I still love you. You will always be my smart, funny, gullible little boy.”

“I love you too, Mom. I’ll send you an invite to the wedding.”

“I would love that! Hey! Let’s take a picture!”

12-28-14_6-05 PM

Lance spoke with a few more guests and then gathered everyone to blow out the candles.

12-28-14_6-10 PM

Although he already got his birthday wish, he still managed to squeeze another wish in there.

12-28-14_6-11 PM

The next day was the Sheridan-Clemons wedding. It was a very beautiful wedding. Cadence and Cameron got married at The Chapel, and they partied like they were all getting culled tomorrow.

After the ceremony, and the cutting of the cake–which was actually in Lance’s inventory too long and spoiled–there was a sudden turn of events. A very unexpected and unwanted guest arrived and start wreaking havoc on the party.

12-28-14_7-03 PM

The Grim Reaper came for Amira. Not that witnessing death is good for anyone to see, but it’s especially not good for a Sim who just got married and a Sim who is getting married the next day. And poor little Marli. She was the first one to see Amira go down. Luckily for her, her mother has experienced many deaths and will be able to help her get through this terrible ordeal. It seemed that everyone was running from inside outside to see what was going on, but then they would be stricken with grief. Half the party was in mourning by the time her urn was left…and she wasn’t even that popular! Lance, the good son, picked up her urn and tucked it gently in his inventory to place it in the family plot next to Brandon.

Lance went inside to find Myra. Suddenly all the memories of all the deaths rushed back to his mind. There is something about tragedy that always seems to give one a sense of urgency.

“Myra! Myra! I need you,” he cried.

“What is it, hon?”

“Let’s do it now! All of my family is here, and you don’t have any family, so why wait? I know you want the white dress and big party, but please, let’s do it now! Life is too short!”

12-28-14_7-05 PM

She saw he had been crying, and when she saw other people cry through the window, she figured out what had happened. She reached up and wiped a few tears from his eyes.

12-28-14_7-06 PM-2

“I don’t need a fancy white dress and a bunch of people I don’t know. As long as you’re here, that’s all that matters to me. Let’s do this.”

12-28-14_7-07 PM

So, they stood at the arch and exchanged vows in tears. One part tears of joy, the other part tears of sorrow. Although both parts were equal, the joyful tears overpowered the sorrowful tears and yielded a pair of happy newlyweds.

12-28-14_7-07 PM-2

“I’m so happy to be married to you, Mrs. Pruett.”

“Me too. I’m very sorry about your mom. I know this is going to be very hard for you, but I’m here now; and I’m not going anywhere.”

“I love you soo much!”

Both couples went home with bittersweet feelings. They were both happy about their new lives together, but bummed about witnessing death. Needless to say, there was no celebratory, inaugural marital activities that night.
